I am currently working on a paperback edition of ‘The Art of War in Italy, 1494-1529’, F.L. Taylor’s classic study of the Italian Wars. Written in the shadow of World War I, it looked back on another period of rapid military innovation, one in which Italy was the laboratory for European armies.
Taylor’s survey is a useful foil for our own time. Over a few short decades, massed infantry firepower replaced heavy cavalry as the principal arm, light cavalry took on a more prominent role, field artillery was integrated into armies, and the art of fortification underwent a drastic change. Taylor shows how these revolutionary changes were the result of tinkering, as generals experimented with new technologies and different techniques to solve the immediate problems of their day.
The aimed release date is before the end of 2023. An updated Kindle edition will be released at the same time, which paid subscribers to the Bazaar of War will receive for free. If you have already purchased the Kindle ebook or purchase it before then, your copy will automatically update on the release date. Because of copyright restrictions, it is unfortunately only available on the US Amazon marketplace.

Nice, congratulations on a new release! Does the book go over the dynamics of the different armies of all the city states, mercenary companies etc or is it technology focused?
